Section of my book,

Before, Afdre, and After (My stroke … oh what fun)

(This is after my stroke, at the hospital) June 19, 2000:

It was 6:00 p.m. or so, and the nurses

were talking outside my room. My

right arm was asleep, and stuck behind

me, and I couldn’t get it back in front.

I should have just used my left arm to

help, and it would have been all better.

But I didn’t think about that. I tried

to move my right arm, but it only got

more stuck.

One nurse came in and said, “Oh

my gosh. Why are you twisted around

like that? How did you get like that?”

(“Obviously, I can’t tell you,” I

thought. “Just help me.”)

Someone else came in and the two

of them helped me get untangled.

                        …

Really late Tuesday or really early

Wednesday morning, June 20/21,

2000:

Soon there was another accident.

I was dreaming about sheets. (Other

people dream about much better

things. I dream about sheets . . . ?)

In the dream, I was going to

pick out the sheets I wanted. Then I

thought, “I should get up; so many

other people are sicker then me, so I

will give the bed to someone else who

needs it more.” So I was going to get up

and leave, but I couldn’t get up. I tried

it again . . . why can’t I get up?! Well, I

guess I finally got out of bed . . . and

immediately fell down on the floor.

A nurse was outside the room

and heard the noise. She came in and

saw what was going on, and she and

somebody else helped me get in the

bed again.

After that, they put a tube inside

my nose that would set off an alarm if

it happened again. It was like I was a

convict.

When morning came, a nurse

gave my breakfast and I tried to

eat it, but the tube got in the way.

AAAAAAAAH!

“Can someone take it out,” I

thought?

The doctor came to my room. “I

know it’s uncomfortable,” she said,

“but you could fall of the bed again or

something worse. Give it some time,

and we will see how you’re doing then …”

😦

“I was reading a bestseller when this book was delivered. I was going to finish the bestseller but I decided to read a couple of pages of “Before, Afdre, and After”. I couldn’t put it down until I finished the entire book. A great inspirational read.”
