Before, Afdre, and After (My stroke … oh what fun)

“Courageous, honest, raw, powerful”
By Monica, September 21, 2016  (in Kindle)

“Courageously written, and shockingly honest and raw, the reader gets to experience through the author’s words what it’s like to have a stroke and go through the long process of recovery. Touching, powerful, and real, this story is very moving and filled with insights and tender moments. The author also includes many links and helpful information for anyone who needs similar support and further information.

I just wish that some of the images of reports, writings, and various samples, were a bit bigger – they were too small for me to read. But that did not take away from the story, which was very powerful and made a big impact. I thank the author for sharing this story.”

P.S.: Sorry! — In Kindle the images of reports, writings, and various samples, are smaller. Until Kindle maybe makes the image etc. bigger, here’s two pics of Kindle vs. Print:

“Amazing book”

“Amazing book”
By Jan D.

“Maureen Twomey wrote this amazing book about how she survived a stroke at age 33! It is sooooooo good. Read it! You will laugh and cry and enjoy it. I know, because I stayed up until 1:30 last night and couldn’t put it down!”

“What an amazing person you are …”

Before, Afdre, and After (My stroke … oh what fun)

“What an amazing person you are Maureen”
By Kathy Storga

“Imagine one day going through your daily routine, and the next thing you remember is being told that you will have to relearn how to walk, talk, read and write. This happened to a high school classmate of mine, Maureen Twomey, at the age of 33, after suffering a massive stroke without warning.

Maureen is a UCLA graduate and a successful advertising professional who was in the prime of her life. (I wish that I could say we were friends in HS instead of acquaintences – definitely my loss.)  I read her book, “Before, Afdre, and After” in one sitting. (Not many books capture my attention to do that.) I highly recommend it!

The two things Maureen’s stroke did not take from her was her sense of humor and her passion to fight to get her life back. What an amazing person you are Maureen!!”

“An inspirational book”

Before, Afdre, and After (My stroke … oh what fun)

“Maureen is an amazing writer whose heartfelt and humorous book tells the story of her stroke and the long road of rehabilitation and recovery.

As a speech therapist, who teaches communication classes to stroke survivors, I found Maureen’s book captured the feelings and struggle that so many individuals experience in their recovery. In our stroke-communication class we read and discussed her book together, and Maureen’s voice and message resonated with everyone.

It is very fortunate for us that Maureen decided that this was the story she would write a book about! This book is a great tool for stroke survivors and is an inspiration to all who read it.”
